The client
E-Legansy, a brand founded in 2018 in Pertuis (Provence, France), develops high-end technical apparel for horses, made in France.
The request
A long-term collaboration, from 2018 to 2022. First, the technical development of the winter rug. Then, in 2022, a new question: building an inflatable shock-absorbing cushion into the rug.
The challenges
- The horse's comfort first: warmth without overheating, no rubbing or pressure points, freedom of movement.
- Durability: a horse out in the field rubs, snags and wears things out. The materials have to last.
- The look of a high-end brand, and production in France.
- Combining an inflatable structure with a textile that must stay supple, light and comfortable.
Solutions and results
SME led the technical development of the rug with E-Legansy: material selection, design, prototypes and testing.
In 2022, SME and the brand designed an inflatable shock-absorbing insert built into the rug. The invention is the subject of a patent application filed by the client.
